Lichen Diversity in Southern California’s Coastal Parks

Lichens are pioneers in rugged
environments, symbiotic organisms that
grow where nothing else can, often setting
the stage for plant and animal life to follow.
Lichens can also serve as indicators of air
pollution and environmental change.

Host a Booth at March 2007 San Diego Science Alliance High Technology Fair

Over 2500 students from 54 schools across San Diego County were introduced to a portable back pack system developed by the High Performance Wireless Research and Education Network. The system, called LIVE, allows Live Interactive Virtual Exploration of remote locations through wireless technology. The NPS and its partners at HPWREN and San Diego State Field Stations Program demonstrated how LIVE connects students to natural resources through new technologies. More>>

New HPWREN "LIVE" Poster

The Live Interactive Virtual Experience (LIVE) system, developed by the High Performance Wireless Research and Education Network is used by the California Mediterranean Research Learning Center and Cabrillo National Monument to bring Science and the Parks to audiences via the Internet. The graphic design was displayed in poster format in the National Park Service booth at the San Diego Science Alliance's 2007 High Tech Fair.
